Snoop Dogg Caught for Pot Possession in Same Texas Town that Busted Willie Nelson

Posted on January 9, 2012

Snoop Dogg’s tour bus was stopped in Sierra Blanca, the same town where police arrested Willie Nelson for pot possession in 2010. But Snoop Dogg thought he would be immune to arrest since he has a medical marijuana prescription card for the half-ounce of weed he had on the bus. However, due to marijuana still being illegal under federal law, medical marijuana prescriptions aren’t honored by every state – and Texas is one of them. Therefore, Snoop was arrested, ticketed for a misdemeanor, and released.

When asked about Willie Nelson’s arrest by TMZ in 2010, Snoop replied, “Man, they better leave Willie the fu*k alone…Willie Nelson is a legend. Sometimes you need to back up off of certain people and have a certain amount of respect for your elders…But I wanna know who is the bogus officer who arrested Willie Nelson?…You dumb motherfuc*er you. What you think you’re gonna gain by arresting Willie Nelson? He back smoking right now!”

It is not certain whether or not the Sierra Blanca police department were aware of Snoop’s remarks to TMZ.

Although Snoop got off with a slap on the wrist (and is probably back smoking right now), the arrest of people who use medical marijuana legally in states that do not honor those laws has caused serious trouble for other people.

In Alabama, Anniston native Michael Lapihuska, who was living in California and visiting relatives in his hometown, has a medical marijuana prescription when he was stopped by police. However, because Alabama, like Texas, does not honor medical marijuana prescription cards, he was busted and threatened with 10 years in prison. He ended up with probation and a year of drug rehab after an advocacy group came to his rescue. Without that help and the media exposure it generated, Lapihuska might have done hard time for what is a legal drug in some states.

Being legal for medical use in California has also led growers and sellers to go to states without legalization because of the higher prices and potential profits, reported California Watch. The result has led to several high-profile arrests, lots of punishment, and lots of money on lawyer fees and incarceration.

And if anybody realizes the need for medical marijuana legalization, it’s Snoop. In fact, Jezebel recently reported that the rapper hopes to have a talk with President Obama about legalizing marijuana for medical use. After getting high with Obama and Wiz Khalifa, Snoop and the president would come to an “understanding that this is what needs to happen in order to make the world go ’round. You gotta be real superficial about certain laws,”  he said.

“They legalized alcohol, they legalized tobacco. What is it gonna hurt to legalize this medicinal, medical marijuana that’s used for purposes of cataracts?”
